Bret D. Beavers, MD – Biography
Bret D. Beavers, MD is board-certified and fellowship-trained in sports medicine orthopedic surgery. He earned his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas, and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. Dr. Beavers did his fellowship training in sports medicine orthopedic surgery at the Steadman Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas, located in Greenville, North Carolina. Dr. Beavers joined Dr. Michael Boothby and The Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Clinic in 2014.
While earning his medical degree from UT Southwestern in Dallas, he was elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. During his internship and residency training at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, he was voted “Best Orthopedic Resident” and served as Chief Resident.
Dr. Beavers then received subspecialty training in sports medicine, arthroscopy, knee, shoulder, and hip surgery at The Steadman Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas in Greenville, South Carolina; there he worked with world-renowned shoulder surgeon Dr. Richard Hawkins and received specialized training in shoulder arthroplasty. During Dr. Beaver’s time in Greenville, he was an assistant team physician for the Greenville Drive as well assisting with care for the Colorado Rockies during their spring training.
Originally from Gilmer, Texas, Dr. Beavers became acquainted with the Fort Worth Orthopedic medical community during his residency and while serving as a board member of the Tarrant County Medical Association. He knew then that Fort Worth was where he wanted to establish his orthopedic surgery medical practice. Today, he lives here with Maggie, his wife, and his dog, Dixie.
Dr. Beavers is an orthopedic surgeon with specialized training for the care of the shoulder, hip, and knee. He specializes in athletic and arthritic injuries of these. He is board-certified and fellowship-trained in arthroscopic and open surgery of the shoulder, hip, and knee.
As an active individual himself—an avid cyclist and all-around outdoor athlete—he knows well how important it is for patients to return to their favorite activities. As a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with specialized, fellowship training in sports medicine, Dr. Beavers is uniquely qualified to treat injuries of the shoulder, hip, and knee, as well as other common traumatic orthopedic injuries.
When he is not in surgery, he works closely with our physical therapy clinic to help patients return to and maintain an active lifestyle. At the OSMI, Dr. Beaver is dedicated to optimizing patient outcomes by beginning with a conservative approach and only considering orthopedic surgery when all non-operative treatments have been exhausted. When he and his patients conclude that surgery is the best option, Dr. Beavers strives to provide superior surgical outcomes with the use of advanced orthopedic surgery using either arthroscopic or open procedures and a treatment plan using evidence-based approaches.
Whether you are a professional athlete, weekend warrior, or simply want to return to an active and pain-free lifestyle, Dr. Beavers delivers a personalized approach to the care of each patient. Along with the OSMI orthopedic medicine team, Dr. Beavers is committed to treating all patients with compassion and respect with an understanding that each patient is unique and has a different need. Dr. Beavers shares our philosophy of putting the patient first, making him an excellent addition to our practice!
